HEATON PARK

Heaton Park is one of the largest municipal parks in Europe and was once the estate of the Earls of Wilton whose family seat the 18th century Heaton Hall forms the centre piece of the park. The estate was handed over to the City in 1902 to become a public park. The Hall is a grade 1 listed building and is undergoing a major renovation funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.  There are seven other structures within the park which are listed by English Heritage. The park itself is listed grade 2 on English Heritage's register of historic parks and gardens and has also been the subject of major renovation and improvement works over recent years.
